Hello! I am using the iOS9 public beta, and I definitely recommend anyone who is comfortable with such things to do it, too. As you remember, last year's roll-out of iOS8 had several Voiceover headaches, and now that Apple is doing a public beta cycle, we have the opportunity to report bugs as they are discovered. What Apple does with them is on them, but hopefully with the VI community actively involved in testing and reporting, Voiceover will come out right on the release version. So far, it's better than the release version of iOS8, but there's still room for improvement.
I think I'd do it if I had two devices.
I rely on my iPhone to much to have problems with the OS.
I think Apple has done a good thing releasing one however.
Jesse, are you running it on your main device? Is GPS ok?
Hi there. If there are new features to be aware of in VoiceOver, does Apple provide information about them with the beta? I may try it on a secondary device.
Nope, you find them by looking around.
What kind of VoiceOver quirks are there in the public beta? I'm not going to try it if it's really buggy.
Voice Over remains Voice Over.
Imagine it as your eyes.
It just reads what is there so to speak.
Siri has some new tricks, but in a few weeks, you'll have that anyway if you've got a compatible device to upgrade to iOS 9.
Actually, it's technically not legal to talk about the beta, or at least, it does violate the NDA that everyone running it supposedly agreed to before installing even the public beta. Yeah, I know, it's stupid, but Apple has some of the most recoculous policies of any company I know. All that said, without giving anything away, I can tell you that whatever is broken in the beta may be fixed by time the public release is out. So any bugs brought up here would just possibly make someone worry about some possible problem that may, or may not, make it in to the final release. There are some cool changes for VoiceOver users, but nothing game changing imho. Have a look at Cool Blind Tech's page for one such violation of the NDA that covers a few of the new features. It's well produced in terms of audio, but the person doing it clearly didn't spend much time actually looking at the beta.
Really? I can ready lots about the beta legal or not.
I never agreed, because I've not installed it. Lol
But, okay, I'll refrain after this post.
Well, I guess it's not illegal, but it does violate the NDA if you did install it, because you have to agree to it before you can do anything with the beta.
I only agree when I must, not before. Lol
Soon as the final versions released, they twist my arm. Smile.
There are worse things they could twist. haahah
If you look at the following link the beta language has been loosened. It looks like you can't do a full review but could mention a show stopper bug that would make it a bad idea for voiceover users to install the beta.
